Farmers Gone Wild.... Well kinda
The Nelson Family Farmstead crew minus 1 and plus 1 (Chuck stayed home to take care of the animals so we could go and Steven our daughter’s boyfriend made the trip with us) were able to venture over 2,100 miles in 5 days all the way to Wyoming and back. We had a BLAST! We stayed in hotels and camped along the whole way. It is not often we get to leave for that many days but when we do, we do it right. We made many stops along the way with our final stop in Fort Bridger, Wy.
We ate a lot of fun places, shopped at a lot of great stores including the huge Cabela’s in Lehi, Scheels, Murdocks, and our all-time favorite Smith and Edwards in Ogden. The kids did a lot of swimming at night along with playing games, a lot of laughing and story telling.
With so much time in the truck it gave us a lot of time to reflect on this past year and to look at the future. This is really the last summer we have with our daughter with no obligations. She is going to be a senior next year and already has plans for next summer that include 4H, softball, working, and leaving for college!! What the heck! (There is no way we are old enough to have a kid that is going to be a senior) We grabbed this chance and ran with it!
Being a homeschool family we had to included some of the nerdiness that we are and hit some of the awesome history that is in that part of the United States which included Fort Bridger. We just happened to visit on a day they had reenactors there and it didn’t disappoint! What topped it off was a canon shoot, learning about the fort, and getting to visit with some of the locals. They are so friendly, just like we remember.

As we made the trek home, we asked all the kids what their favorite part of the trip was. Each one of them had a different answer. That was unexpected but awesome to us. We felt like we had covered it all. On our way home we drop off our daughter and her boyfriend with his family to catch the second leg of their camping trip! More fun memories to be made. As we settle in at home now, bags unpacked, laundry done, catching up on emails from work, and overall, just happy to be home. We are so grateful to be here
, see our animals, pet our dog Bjorn, collect eggs, love on our pigs, and call the cows to let them know we are home and treats are coming!
Life goes by so quick! The one thing we tell our kids all the time is that you can’t buy time. It is the most valuable thing you have. Use every minute of it! Until next time, the farmstead crew is rested and ready for some big to-dos around the farm!!! That is another blog post coming soon……
